‘Looks like a pretty good wicket’ - Pat Cummins provides insight into Ahmedabad pitch ahead of Final showdown

“I'm not a great pitch reader, but it looked pretty firm. They've only just watered it, so yeah, give it another 24 hours and have a look," Pat Cummins said.

The final of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 is all set to be held between India and Australia. Both sides will take centre stage at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19, and it could be interesting to see which side comes out on top and lifts the world title once again.

As the game approaches, one of the biggest talking points of the clash will be what kind of surface will be in play when India and Australia take centre stage. The skipper of the Men in Yellow, Pat Cummins, was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad recently, where he got to have a look at the pitch.

Cummins opined that he is not a good pitch reader, but it seemed like a firm wicket, and waiting a day for it to dry down could provide a better idea of the wicket that will be in play.

“I'm not a great pitch reader, but it looked pretty firm. They've only just watered it, so yeah, give it another 24 hours and have a look, but it looks like a pretty good wicket,” Cummins was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

I think we've struck that balance pretty well: Cummins

Furthermore, Cummins also highlighted how the Australian team has done well in adapting to Indian conditions and how the side has struck the balance between using a variety of deliveries quite well.

"You've got to be brave with some of the balls you use, slower balls, bouncers; you've got to find that balance between mixing it up and not going chasing too much. I think we've struck that balance pretty well, and at least over here in India, a lot of times by the end of the innings, things like cutters work perhaps better than they do elsewhere in the world,” Cummins said.

Furthermore, the Aussie skipper was also asked about how much of a home advantage the Indian team would have in the final. Cummins replied that the situation could be equal for both sides.

"Yeah, I mean, it's hard to say; it's obviously the same for both teams. No doubt, playing on your own wicket in your own country has some advantages, similar to wickets that you've been playing your whole life. But we've played a lot of cricket over here,” Cummins said.
