Most Expensive Players in LPL 2023

With the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 recently having organised its first ever auction, there were a lot of players that went under the hammer during the event. The auction took place on Wednesday, June 14, where all the five franchises brought a combined total of 94 players. 

Following the auction, the fourth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 is all set to begin on July 31, and there will be many big names featuring in the competition like Babar Azam, David Miller, Matthew Wade, and many more. 

Throughout the auction, there was a recurring theme of overseas players going unsold. Mostly Sri Lankan players were given preference, as many franchises opted for home-grown talent ahead of the marquee tournament.

Colombo Strikers brought in the likes of Pathum Nissanka, Wahab Riaz, Lorcan Tucker, and many more to name a few. Dambulla Aura opted for the likes of Dhananjaya de Silva, Hayden Kerr, Noor Ahmad, and many more.

Shoaib Malik, Charith Asalanka, and Chris Lynn were roped in by Jaffna Kings, whereas Dinesh Chandimal, Mohammad Hasnain, and many others were roped in by B-Love Kandy.

It is also worth noting that the Pakistan players were in high demand in the auction; with several players from Pakistan already pre-signed, there were many others who were roped in by the franchises ahead of the competition.

Furthermore, former Indian batter Suresh Raina, who was reportedly taking part in the auction, was never called up to be under the hammer, as several new reports emerged that stated that he withdrew his name.
