Amol Kolpe, a cricketer from Malegaon has been arrested by Baramati City police after forging his age. He has been sent to 14-day magisterial custody after remaining in police custody for three days. Kople forged his date of birth for a Maharashtra Cricket Association's U-19 invitational league matches held in January this year.
Amol had mentioned his date of birth to be September 28, 2007, in the documents he submitted for MCA's Under-19 invitation league matches. However, an enquiry discovered older documents, contradicting Amol's date of birth. The older document revealed his date of birth to that of February 15, 1999.
"We had verified the documents submitted by the complainant. Post verification, we questioned the Malegaon boy on the issue of hiding his real age and later arrested him. On Sunday, a magisterial court had ordered his three-day custodial remand which ended on Tuesday. Now that he has been sent to magisterial custody, he can seek a regular bail,” Inspector Sunil Mahadik was quoted by The Times of India.
The forgery came to light after a complaint was registered about the same from Nana Satav of the Karbhari Club.
“I approached the police because of the incompetent handling of the case by the authorities concerned. Not addressing the overage issue properly is nothing but playing with the careers of those young players who follow the regulations," Nana Satav said to the officials.
