After a dismal performance in the recently concluded ODI World Cup, England were expected to bounce back in the three-match series against West Indies but they ended up losing 2-1. Following this, the Three Lions have faced a massive backlash, especially skipper Jos Buttler, who has been below average so far. However, head coach Matthew Mott wants to calm things down and urges the fans to be patient as they are undergoing a rebuilding phase.
Mott mentioned that the team was in the winning position in all three ODIs of the series but failed to capitalize on the opportunities. However, he saw multiple positives, including the camaraderie between the players despite the series loss.
“We haven't put a complete game together and that's the frustration. We put ourselves in a chance to win all three games and come away with a series loss, so that's not ideal. But there are definitely some really good signs there that there's a group of players who love playing with each other. They're some really good mates in there and I think it'll really take the game forward,” Mott was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Sam Curran had a mixed series against West Indies. He was extremely expensive in the opening ODI, conceding 98 runs in 9.5 overs but bounced back in the second match, winning the POTM award. Speaking about him, Mott said that the team management is ready to invest in the youngster as he is deemed to replace Chris Woakes in the set-up.
“Sam's definitely a player that we really want to invest in. He's got a lot of qualities that we like and he's got the game to really play well,” Mott said.
Mott further added that the team had shown a lot of character and spirit in the third ODI, which England lost by four wickets (DLS method). However, he doesn’t want to give any sort of excuse and calls for some patience.
