Both the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have categorically denied any involvement in talks surrounding the trade of Hardik Pandya ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL). This comes after the Indians' poor 2026 season, which saw them finish ninth under the all-rounder's captaincy.

Earlier this week, it was reported that both franchises were in advanced talks over a potential trade. However, both camps have denied the discussions taking place. Talking to Cricbuzz, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan claimed that any talks about a potential trade will only take place after the conclusion of the 2026 Major League Cricket, which involves the Texas Super Kings.

"We have not taken any decision, and it is definitely not on the table as yet. We are aware which player is up for trade and we will discuss it once we complete our review of the season, which will only be after the ongoing MLC. There is still a lot of time for that," CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said to Cricbuzz.

MI, on the other hand, are involved in a deep review of their 2026 season, which commenced after the AGM of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). According to the aforementioned source, the review is set to be more hostile this time around after MI finished at the foot of the standings in two of the last three campaigns.

"Currently we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades, the same is only possible once the review is complete. We have just begun our post season review and will look into all aspects of the team. As with any review of this nature, a range of options and ideas will be evaluated before any decisions are made with regard to players," MI spokesperson said in an official statement.

Reports: Seven franchises interested in Hardik Pandya trade

It is safe to say that MI will have an advantage in negotiations, with several teams interested in securing Hardik's services for the 2027 season. These include the aforementioned CSK, along with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals. The trade will therefore depend heavily on what the five-time champions get in return, be it an all-cash deal or a player.
