The 12th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 saw Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday, April 8. Mumbai Indians came into the game on the back of a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore and hoped for a different outcome in the high-profile clash against Chennai.
However, the same was not the case for the Rohit Sharma-led side as Chennai outclassed the five-time champions to register their second win of the season. Following the loss, Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma was seen hiding his face under his cap.
Registering back-to-back losses, things have not been going Rohit’s way. In the two games that he has played so far, he has scored 22 runs collectively. The ace Indian batter will hope for a better outcome in the upcoming games.
Chennai Super Kings win against Mumbai Indians in high-profile clash
Coming to the game, Chennai Super Kings won the toss, and skipper MS Dhoni elected to field first. Coming in to bat, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan looked to provide the side with a good start; however, wickets fell in quick succession, and pressure was mounted on the five-time champions early on.
Following a rocky innings, Mumbai managed to post 157 runs on the board. In the second innings, the MS Dhoni-led side was left stunned after the early dismissal of Devon Conway. However, man-in-form Ruturaj Gaikwad played a resilient knock and stood at the crease until the very end.
After the fall of the first wicket, veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane set the stage ablaze with his explosive knock. He scored 61 runs in just 27 deliveries and was integral to Chennai registering their second win of the season. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians' struggle in the tournament continued as they suffered their second defeat in their second game. The Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai will be desperate to win their first game of the IPL 2023 in the forthcoming matches.
