Mohammad Wasim rates Fatima Sana ahead of Babar Azam in popularity

Former Pakistan chief selector and ex-Pakistan women's head coach Mohammad Wasim has placed women's captain Fatima Sana above Babar Azam in terms of popularity, calling her the country's current cricket superstar. Wasim made the claim during an interactive session on his YouTube channel on September 24, 2026.

When being posed with a question to compare the likes of Fatima with Babar Azam on the basis of the two's individual performances, Wasim did not hesitate to shower massive praise on the women's team skipper and star all-rounder. Wasim did not comment anything on Babar.

"She is ahead of everyone currently. In the cricket-literate community, she is rated highly," Wasim said in a video on his YouTube channel as quoted by Ausaf, pointing to her consistent contributions with both bat and ball as the reason for her standing.

Wasim also pointed to Fatima's forthcoming participation in The Hundred as a factor that will bring her before a wider global audience, adding another dimension to a profile that is already drawing attention beyond the subcontinent. Wasim then elaborated on what drives that recognition.

"Popularity is earned by performance. She is batting and bowling as well, and at the moment, if you even look at the international media, they always praise Fatima Sana even though she is often on the losing side," Wasim added.

Wasim's view is built on two pillars: Fatima's all-round output and the consistent attention she draws from international cricket media.
