Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the most consistent performers for India in domestic cricket. However, the selectors have overlooked the Mumbai batter, much to the surprise of Indian cricket fans. He recently played in the Deodhar Trophy where he represented West Zone.
Sarfaraz recently got married to a young woman hailing from the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. Social media has been flooded with several pictures and videos of the young cricketer, dressed in a black Sherwani, visiting his in-laws' home for the auspicious marriage ceremony.
The right-handed batter also mentioned during an interaction with a local media outlet that marrying a girl from Kashmir was his destiny. Sarfaraz also said that he would soon wear the India jersey if he is meant to. Lady luck might work wonders for the talented cricketer, who represents Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.
Sarfaraz Khan has been exceptional in red-ball cricket
The 25-year-old has been a standout performer in red-ball cricket at the first-class level, scoring 3559 runs in 39 matches at a mind-boggling average of 74.14, with a highest score of 301*. Sarfaraz also gets his runs quickly, as his strike rate is a high 69.59. His conversion rate is also admirable as he has 13 centuries to his name and nine fifties. In the last three Ranji Trophy seasons, Sarfaraz amassed 928, 982, and 556 runs, respectively.
It is quite difficult to understand how a consistent player like Sarfaraz has been ignored by the selectors for so long. The middle-order batter, however, has not been able to replicate his red-ball performances in limited-overs cricket. Sarfaraz averages 35.86 in 31 matches in List-A cricket, while in T20s, he has an average of 22.48 in 88 games. His IPL performances have also been quite pedestrian, as he has an average of 22.50 and a strike rate of 130.58 after playing 50 games in the cash-rich league. He will hope that the rub of the green would go his way sooner rather than later in terms of selection to the Indian side.
