The Asia Cup 2023 is well underway, and fans will be lying in wait to see India take on Pakistan in match 3 of the marquee tournament. It is worth noting that both sides face each other on Saturday, September 2, and with the hype building up, there have been many strategies that have been discussed over the past few weeks.
One of the many is star Indian batter Virat Kohli coming in to bat in the middle order. Former India coach Ravi Shastri recently opined that he pondered over the possibility of Kohli batting at No. 4 at the ODI World Cup 2019, but the idea was eventually scrapped.
Speaking of the same, former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar came forward to speak against the plan. Gavaskar opined that Virat Kohli should not be moved from his batting position and stated that the best player should play the maximum number of overs.
"The best player must bat the maximum number of overs, and at number three he gets an opportunity to bat the maximum number of overs, So as far as I'm concerned, I think that's the place where he's been enormously successful. He's been, you know, contributing. How many? 44 hundreds in that position, Maybe 43, maybe one in another position. But, he's got so many hundreds in one day cricket batting at number three, why should they change that?" Gavaskar said in an interaction with India Today.
