Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman has formally submitted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) request to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the first time in his career. Should the board grant approval, he is expected to don the Melbourne Renegades colours in the upcoming Australian T20 competition.

The development came to light on Monday during the player auction for the domestic tournament D3. BCB president Tamim Iqbal confirmed to reporters that both Mustafizur and leg-spinner Rishad Hossain had formally approached the board seeking NOC clearance ahead of the BBL season.

As reported by Daily Star, Mustafizur's anticipated unavailability for a significant portion of D3 meant he attracted limited bidding interest at the auction. He will be available only for the ODI format of the tournament, with Seven Rings Cement securing his services for 70 lakh virtual points. Having stepped away from red-ball cricket entirely, Mustafizur is no longer part of domestic first-class competitions in Bangladesh, making white-ball leagues abroad a logical and natural avenue for him to remain active at the highest level.

How does the BBL window affect Mustafizur's D3 participation?

The forthcoming BBL edition is scheduled to run through December-January, a window that directly overlaps with the T20 phase of the D3 tournament. Because the two competitions coincide, Mustafizur will be unable to take part in D3's T20 segment at all, which explains why franchises at the auction showed restrained enthusiasm for his services beyond the ODI portion of the event.

The scheduling conflict highlights a recurring challenge for Bangladesh players who pursue opportunities in overseas T20 leagues. The BCB must balance the value of international exposure against the gaps such absences create in the domestic calendar, and Mustafizur's situation is a pointed illustration of that ongoing tension. His case is unlikely to be the last of its kind as more Bangladesh cricketers attract interest from franchise competitions around the world.

Which Bangladeshi cricketers have featured in the BBL?

Shakib Al Hasan holds the distinction of being the first Bangladeshi cricketer to appear in the BBL, and he did so representing the Melbourne Renegades. Should Mustafizur's NOC application receive the green light, he would become the second Bangladesh player to pull on the Renegades jersey in the competition, adding a notable chapter to the franchise's connection with Bangladeshi talent.

Meanwhile, Rishad Hossain is already familiar with the BBL environment. The leg-spinner made a strong impression during his stint with the Hobart Hurricanes last season and is set to return to the same franchise for the upcoming edition. His continued association with Hobart, alongside Mustafizur's potential debut in Melbourne, raises the prospect of two Bangladesh bowlers featuring simultaneously in the BBL — a scenario that would mark a new milestone for the country's presence in the competition.
