My dream is to see a live team selection meeting, it will happen if you want transparency: Ravi Shastri

Former Indian team’s head coach Ravi Shastri feels that if the team selection meetings will be broadcasted then this will lead to potential revenues as well as it will also create a sense of accountability for the selection panel, and also will help in providing clarity in the minds of the fans.                           

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is currently looking for a new chairman of selectors as Chetan Sharma handed over his resignation post his string operation scandal. The 1983 Cricket World Cup winner was also appointed as the chairman of the Legends League Cricket after he stepped down as India's Head Coach after his tenure after the team's 2021 T20 World Cup exit.               

Recently, in ESPNcricinfo’s RunOrder, the 60-year-old revealed that he was never invited to any of the selection meetings during his tenure as India’s head coach. It is to be noted down that India achieved some magnificent landmarks during his tenure. 

"It is my dream to see a live selection meeting. Can you imagine the box office when a selection meeting is happening, where a selector is accountable. It is not that far, it will happen if you want transparency. They can even sell the broadcast rights for the selection meetings as well, why not? The selectors will also then get paid five times more, because of the revenue that comes in," Shastri explained.

Shiv Sundar Das is currently named as the Interim Chairman of the selection committee as the board will be looking for a replacement after the conclusion of IPL 2023.

Touching upon another topic, Shastri stated how he would like to see some interesting right and left-hand combinations in the upcoming bunch of players. IPL has certainly given selectors some great left-handers who can take up the job for India in the future.

"I would also like to see left-hand-right-hand combinations, just like you look for a left-arm with the ball, I would like to see some left-handed batters in there as well. Even in this IPL, the teams that have done well, look at the mix they have. CSK have Conway, Dube, Moeen and Jadeja, GT have Sudharshan, Miller, and Tewatia," Shastri added.
