Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana has been ruled out of the Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Japan in mid-September 2026. The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed on August 31, 2026, that Rana is still in rehabilitation following a side strain and will not be considered for the tournament under any circumstances.

Rana sustained the injury during Bangladesh's tour of Zimbabwe, and the strain proved serious enough to keep him out of the two-match Test series against Australia that followed. On August 31, he resumed bowling in the nets at the BCB Academy premises for the first time in six weeks, a positive step in his recovery but not enough to earn him a place in the Asian Games plans.

Why has Nahid Rana been ruled out of the Asian Games?

BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar made the board's stance clear, emphasising that the management has no intention of rushing the 23-year-old back into competitive cricket.

"We are not considering Nahid Rana for the Asian Games owing to his rehabilitation process," Bashar was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

The side strain Rana picked up in Zimbabwe has required careful management, and the BCB has been cautious throughout his recovery. Although he returned to light bowling in the nets on August 31, the board is not willing to expose him to the physical demands of a competitive tournament so soon after resuming activity.

Habibul Bashar confirmed that the exclusion is a direct consequence of the ongoing rehabilitation programme. With Rana only six weeks removed from the injury at the time of the announcement, the board decided that protecting his long-term fitness was the priority. Bashar was unequivocal on the matter.

"It is 100% confirmed that he will not play in the Asian Games," Bashar added.

When is Nahid Rana expected to return to competitive cricket?

The BCB has identified the Afghanistan series in October 2026 as the realistic target for Rana's return to competitive action. The board believes the gap between now and that series provides enough time for him to complete his rehabilitation and gradually build up his bowling load before being considered for selection again.
