India will be hosting New Zealand in a bilateral white-ball series comprising three One Day Internationals and as many T20Is from January 18 to February. The Indian team will be immediately back in on-field action just three days after the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka that concludes on January 15.
The ODI series will serve as an ideal preparation for both sides as they gear up for the 2023 50-overs World Cup that is scheduled to be played in India next year. Meanwhile, the upcoming series will be a wonderful opportunity for the Indian team to continue their home dominance.
India emerged victorious by a 1-0 margin in a rain-curtailed away T20I series last month. However, the Men in Blue would be eager to avenge their 0-1 away ODI series loss and would also be looking to make a statement for the 0-3 humiliating whitewash that they had suffered in New Zealand in February 2020.
India would be eager to rediscover their rhythm in the 50-overs format as they have lost two back-to-back ODI series. After the series defeat against New Zealand, the Men in Blue lost 1-2 in Bangladesh
With India not playing too many ODIs leading up to next year’s World Cup at home, the selectors and the team management would be looking to play a full-strength squad for getting an ample amount of match practice. Therefore, this is a very important home series for the hosts with regards to the long-term preparations and they would be expected to come out all guns blazing in this series.
As for the BlackCaps, regular skipper Kane Williamson has been rested as a part of the workload management and New Zealand will be led by wicketkeeper-batter Tom Latham.
