After a disappointing performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjeev Goenka was spotted having an animated discussion with captain KL Rahul, which gave birth to multiple reports of him stepping down as the leader of the locker room. Rahul, who is LSG’s top scorer of the season, has scored 460 runs in 12 matches but his strike rate of 136.09 has received a lot of criticism.

Dismissing all the speculations concerning KL Rahul, LSG assistant coach Lance Klusener remarked that there have been no discussions regarding captaincy in the LSG camp. He noted that the duo of Rahul and Goenka had a chat regarding the game and called it a ‘storm in a teacup’.

“However, Klusener denied any such talks. Certainly no discussions around that (captaincy). I don’t see any problem with some robust discussion between two cricket lovers. It’s a storm in a teacup,” Klusener was quoted as saying by Sportstar.

We would like to be just a little bit more consistent: Klusener

Lucknow managed to win six out of their 12 matches so far in IPL 2024. The KL Rahul-led side is seventh on the points table and if they manage to win their remaining two matches, the franchise will qualify for the playoffs for the third straight time. Ahead of taking on Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Klusener noted that the team should have been a bit more consistent, to cement their playoff berth by now. The former cricketer also added that their batters haven’t been at their best this season.

“We would like to be just a little bit more consistent. If we want to win the IPL, we probably have to win five in a row, which I think RCB has just done. So it is absolutely possible. That’s just the big picture, we have to go over the line tomorrow before we have any other aspirations. So I think it is the batting unit around KL, we haven’t been as good as we should be,” Klusener said.
