'No need to worry, he is batting flawlessly' - Irfan Pathan on Rohit Sharma's century drought

Irfan Pathan believes that there is no need to worry about Rohit Sharma's struggles to score big knocks after the latter's early dismissal against New Zealand in the first ODI on Wednesday (January 18). Rohit got India off to a good start and scored 34 off 38 but failed to convert it.

Rohit's last century in white-ball cricket came in January 2020. He came close to end his century drought when he smashed 83 against Sri Lanka in the first ODI earlier this month. But he got out while playing a big shot, which has attracted a lot of criticism lately.

Meanwhile, Irfan feels that Rohit is playing good shots lately and praised his 'flawless batting'. He also added that fans think Rohit plays a false shot every time he gets out, but he believes that there is no need to worry about Rohit's batting.

"He played very good shots. He hit over cover on the up with a high elbow and played the pull shots - flawless batting, but when he gets out you feel that he played a false shot. I will say again that the way Rohit Sharma is batting, there is no need to worry at all in white-ball cricket, especially in ODI cricket," Irfan Pathan said while speaking on Star Sports show.

Irfan also added that Rohit needs to focus on his front leg, which the former thinks is going a little too across. He feels that Rohit and management will be discussing the technical issues ahead of the Test series against Australia next month. 

"He just has to pay a little attention to his front leg when he goes to red-ball cricket. I am sure the team management will also have their eyes on that, it is going a little too across. So it is happening either because of that or the mindset.

"It is all a mindset game here because if such a big player has slight issues with his technique, he makes the adjustment and he has the ability. That is why Rohit Sharma has reached close to 10000 runs. We are talking about such a big legend, there is no need to worry," Irfan added.
