Who won New Zealand vs England 2nd ODI today? — Match result & turning points
New Zealand clinched the three-match ODI series 2–0 after a strong five-wicket win over England in the second ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton. Chasing 176, the hosts cruised home with 101 balls to spare, thanks to fifties from Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra and a quickfire cameo from skipper Mitchell Santner. Blair Tickner was the pick of the bowlers for his career-best 4 for 34 in a superb comeback to international cricket.
Winning the toss, Santner opted to bowl first. His decision paid off as England suffered a batting collapse once again, folding for just 175 in 36 overs, their second sub-200 total in the series. Tickner, returning to the team after two years, picked four wickets, supported by Nathan Smith (2/27) and Michael Bracewell (1/16).
England’s innings never got going. After Ben Duckett fell early to Jacob Duffy, Jamie Smith and Joe Root tried to stabalize things before both were dismissed inside the first 12 overs. Harry Brook, who had played a match-saving knock in the first ODI, looked good again with 34 off 34, but was undone by a sharp catch from Will Young off Santner. Jos Buttler (9) and Jacob Bethell (18) also fell early, further putting the visitors on the back foot..
Jamie Overton’s 42 off 28 featured four boundaries and two sixes and was the only respectable contribution in an otherwise dull batting display. He found little support from the tail, as Tickner cleaned up the lower order to end England’s innings before the 36th over.
Defending just 175, England needed early wickets, and Jofra Archer delivered a clinical spell on his ODI return against New Zealand. Bowling above 90 mph, Archer trapped Will Young lbw in his first over and later dismissed Rachin Ravindra (54) and Michael Bracewell (5) to finish with figures of 3 for 23 from 10 overs, including four maidens.
Despite Archer’s brilliance, Ravindra continued his fine run of form, stitching partnerships with Kane Williamson (21) and Daryl Mitchell (56*). After Ravindra and Bracewell fell in quick succession, Mitchell-Santner partnered with Mitchell. The pair added 59 runs off just 31 balls, with Santner smashing 34 off 17, including two fours and three sixes. Mitchell remained unbeaten at the other end, guiding New Zealand home with an unbeaten 56, his second consecutive fifty in the series.

Top batting performances of the match — Daryl Mitchell
New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell continued his fine form in the ongoing series against England. After scoring an unbeaten 78 in the opening fixture, Mitchell hammered a 59-ball 56* to guide his team over the line. In his 92-minute stay, he hammered six boundaries and two sixes. His unbeaten 59-run stand with skipper Mitchell Santner helped the team reach the target in 33.1 overs.
Best bowling spells — Blair Tickner
Right-arm pacer Blair Tickner, who missed the first ODI, returned with a four-wicket haul in his eight-over spell. Tickner, conceding 34 runs, bowled a maiden and got the wickets of Joe Root, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, and Adil Rashid. His brilliance with the ball was instrumental in helping hosts bundle the Three Lions for 174 runs.

Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved
This was New Zealand's first bilateral ODI series win over England since 2013 (away). The last series win against England at home was in 2008.
Who was the Player of the Match?
Featuring in his 14th ODI, Blair Tickner was named the Player of the Match for his heroics with the ball. Tickner's 4/34 are his career-best figures so far, and he would look to add more to the tally. The right-arm quick found able support from his teammates, and quickly wrapped up the opposition tail.
What is the next match?
After winning the first two fixtures of the three-match series, the hosts have sealed the series and currently lead the three-match series 2-0. With the series result already finalized, the BlackCaps will look to complete a clean sweep. The England team will look to salvage its pride. The third ODI is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, at the Sky Stadium in Wellington.
