On Monday, May 8, Cricket Improvement Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced the appointment of Omkar Salvi as their head coach for the upcoming 2023-24 domestic season. Salvi, who is currently part of the Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders, will be joining Mumbai’s senior men’s squad right after the conclusion of the cash-rich league.

Former Mumbai batter Vinit Indulkar meanwhile has been appointed as the batting coach, while former wicketkeeper-batter Onkar Gurav will serve the team as its fielding coach. The 34-year-old has played 16 first-class matches and has scored 434 runs, while Indulkar has much more experience, having played 43 first-class matches and 32 List-A matches.

Notably, Salvi has worked as the bowling coach of the Mumbai side previously. However, this time around, he will be replacing Amol Muzumdar at the helm of things and will be gunning to bring the Ranji Trophy back, something that the city has won 41 times in the past.

Among other appointments, Dinesh Lad was named as the head coach of the U-19 side, while Rajesh Powar will be serving in the same capacity at the U-23 level. Lad, who has coached the likes of Rohit Sharma and Shardul Thakur in the past, is a terrific signing since he has a lot of experience in grooming young talents into future superstars.

On the other hand, Sandesh Kawle has been appointed as the head coach of the U-16 level, while Nilesh Masurkar will serve as the head coach of the U-14 team. When it comes to the women’s team, former India cricketer Sunetra Paranjpe has been named as the new coach. She has represented the national team in three Test matches and 28 ODIs. She has 355 runs and 11 wickets to her name in the process.

Meanwhile, Jayesh Dadarkar will be serving the Under-23 team, while Ajay Kadam and Aparna Kambli were appointed as the head coaches of the Under-19 and Under-15 girls' sides.

When it comes to MCA Academy, Sameer Dighe will be in-charge while Vinayak Mane and Pradeep Sunderam will be serving as batting and bowling coaches, respectively. Sunil Lingayat was appointed the fielding coach.
