Prasidh Krishna backs his 'ability to adapt and deliver' ahead of India's Test assignments

Prasidh Krishna has expressed confidence in his ability to perform across different conditions as India gears up for a demanding run of Test cricket. The Karnataka pacer, who has been a consistent presence in India's Test plans over the past couple of years, is focused on the upcoming New Zealand tour and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in 2027.

Krishna made his Test debut on December 26, 2023, against South Africa and has since played seven Tests, claiming 25 wickets at an average of 31.96. His most recent Test appearance came on June 6, 2026, against Afghanistan. After recovering from injury, he returned to competitive cricket this domestic season and played four first-class games to prove his fitness and secure his Test berth.

"I think it’s the ability to adapt and deliver, no matter what the conditions are. You need to be able to run in and bowl your heart out wherever you play. Understanding your bowling partners is also important. Like batting, bowling is about partnerships, being able to complement each other and deliver whatever the team needs," Krishna said, speaking to JioStar.

India are set to begin their home season with three ODIs against West Indies from September 27, 2026, as they build towards the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

How is Krishna approaching the New Zealand challenge?

New Zealand presents a distinct set of demands for any pace bowler, with conditions that require sustained effort and adaptability across long spells. Krishna is clear-eyed about what the Indian fast bowling unit will face and has spoken about the mindset needed to handle those challenges.

"New Zealand is going to be a completely different challenge. It’s a beautiful place to play, but as a bowler, it tests you in every way, your skill, your endurance and your ability to keep coming back session after session. For now, we’re focusing on getting the basics right. Once we get there, we’ll understand the conditions and adapt accordingly. The idea is to equip ourselves with all kinds of skills so that, when we get there, we can pick and choose what we want to do. As fast bowlers, we’re definitely going to be tested. You’re expected to do a lot more in New Zealand than in the subcontinent, and that’s the challenge I’m looking forward to," Krishna said.

What does Krishna's 'five-Test Series' experience mean for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy?

Krishna has featured in five-Test series on two separate occasions, once in Australia and once in England, giving him direct experience of the physical and mental demands that extended Test campaigns place on fast bowlers. That background is expected to be relevant as India build towards the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2027. He was part of the squad announced on October 25, 2024, for the previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, alongside Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

"I’ve experienced five-Test series twice now, once in Australia and once in England, and I’ve grown a lot from those experiences. It’s a completely different challenge to stay in rhythm and carry momentum across five games and 25 days of cricket. The team is already building towards that challenge. Everyone is in great shape and has the right mindset to take it on. We also know how important the series is in the WTC cycle, so I’m really looking forward to it," Krishna said.
