Since then, he is yet to make any appearance for India in any format He had a chance in the New Zealand series, but was chosen by the Indian think-tank to be benched throughout the series. Yes I did not get an opportunity but was given the chance of making a comeback: Prithvi Shaw
“It all depended on them, when to play when not to, but I respected that because probably they wanted to give the person before me a bit longer run. But again, I don't regret that. I will keep on looking for opportunities because I have a list of goals I want to achieve with the Indian team,” the 23-year-old said while speaking to News24sports.
The right-handed opening batter stated that he holds no malice against the Indian management. Shaw was of the opinion that the management's responsibility was to choose the best player for the current situation. The management felt it right to provide an opportunity to someone before him so they did. The Mumbai-born player believed that it was important for him to respect and maintain the sanctity of such decisions for the betterment of the team.
Prithvi Shaw said he was happy that being even called to be part fo the squad was in itself very important as it meant the Indian management wanted to provide him with a chance for a comeback. He was willing to keep working hard and continue to score runs and wait patiently for the right time when he does get a chance to represent India again.
“I felt really nice coming back into the T20I squad, to meet the players and train with them. I enjoyed that bit. Yes I did not get an opportunity but was given the chance of making a comeback, that mattered. I kept on scoring runs. I felt if that was not enough then I have to score more and more...then I scored 379. It was just my day and felt I will not let go of this opportunity. Sometimes it just tends to hit you that why I am not in the Indian team for so long despite all the efforts, but it's never too late,” Shaw concluded.
