Former Afghanistan player Asghar Afghan has once again said that the dinner party will once again be on star leg-spinner Rashid Khan after their emphatic seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2022 encounter at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, August 30.

The Afghans showcased an outstanding performance on the field as they outplayed the Bangladeshis in all departments of the game just like they had outclassed Sri Lanka three days earlier. By the virtue of this win, Afghanistan have qualified for the Super 4 in style and become the first team to do so in this edition.

It will be an electrifying atmosphere in the dressing room: Asghar Afghan

“The boys will be really happy in the dressing room. The boys would have enjoyed a lot more had (Mohammad) Shehzad been there in the dressing room as well because he is very funny. Especially during the winning moment when he comes and says ‘Today we have won the match’. Since he is a huge fan of MS (Dhoni) he always used to say that even when MS used to win matches, he used to relax during the last couple of deliveries and enjoy, have a chat and then go so even today we will relax and go. So this was Shehzad’s plan after winning the match and we used to trouble him a lot at that time, but he never got irritated.”, said Asghar Afghan while speaking on BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker.

“It will be an electrifying atmosphere in the dressing room and the boys will have a lot of fun and the boys will be extremely happy and I know that it will be once again be Rashid’s chance to treat the boys tomorrow since the team has won and even he has performed well”, he added.

Even though Bangladesh skipper called it right at the toss and elected to bat first, the strategy backfired completely as the three-time Asia Cup finalists lost half their side at the score of 53 with mystery spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman bamboozling the top-order.

Courtesy of a valiant unbeaten 31-ball 48 from Mosaddek Hossain and a supporting 25 from Mahmudullah Riyad Bangladesh reached 127/3. Rashid Khan finished with figures of 3/22 from his four overs at an economy of 5.5.

In reply, Afghanistan did lose three key wickets, but that did not distract them by any means as important knocks from Ibrahim Zadran (42*) and Najibullah Zadran (43*) helped the Afghans get past the finish line in the penultimate over.
