The past year one year has seen Team India have multiple captains on multiple occasions. Along with too much of chopping and changing in the playing XI, a lot of players have been tried as captains which hasn't gone very well with many. From KL Rahul to Hardik Pandya, several players have captained the Indian team across formats, barring one veteran cricketer, Ravi Ashwin.

Ever since India's all-format captain Virat Kohli stepped down from the post, as many as seven players have been given the responsibility to lead India. Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, all have led India across formats on various occasions. However, surprisingly, one player whose name features is veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin has been extremely instrumental in India's success on multiple occassions. His all-round peformance, topped with outstanding skillset and strategy making has helped India emerge victorious from the toughest of situations. However, when the lanky 36-year-old was asked the captaincy question, he had a very clear say.

"Once I hang up my boots, I think I'll have an answer for that. But until then my dreams will be open, I'll be looking forward to opportunities," Ashwin said in an interview with The New Indian Express. He believes that not becoming the captain of India shouldn't affect his sleep neither should hamper his game.

Hardik is a very smart cricketer: Ravi Ashwin

Upon Hardik's captaincy, the all-rounder went onto say, "He is a very smart cricketer. The thing I like about him is he is very chill. Because he's chill and relaxed, I think it will keep the team atmosphere pretty relaxed and players will perform well as a unit."

For now, it seems that India might look to indulge in split captaincy, as Rohit Sharma aims to have more focus on the two longer formats of the game. Hardik for the time being is being groomed as a T20I captain.
