The FIFA World Cup final at the Lusail Stadium in Doha truly lived up to its expectation as there was drama, action and a lot of tension in the air throughout the course of the game. After winning almost every other trophy in his career, Argentina skipper Lionel Messi was craving to get his hands on the big one and on Sunday, November 18, his ultimate dream finally came true after a stunning performance on the night of the finals.

Former India international Ravi Shastri, whose exhilarating voice still gives goosebumps to many, was attending the all-important final and was enraptured by Lionel Messi’s first goal in the 23rd minute of the match. The 60-year-old even shared his commentary on Argentine’s goal and it took no time to go viral on social media.

The seven-times Ballon D’or winner, who already missed a penalty earlier in the tournament, held his nerves and sent Hugo Lloris on the other way to give Argentina the lead. While commentating about the same, Shastri described the entire situation and was also seen losing his calm after the goal.

“It’s Messi! Will that left foot do the job? It’s the World Cup Final, it’s the left foot, it’s Messi. Can Argentina go 1 up? Tensions all around the ground. You can almost feel the nerves jangling. Here goes Messi. And it’s a goal,” Shastri shouted out loud.

Minutes later, winger Angel Di Maria gave Argentina a two-goal cushion after a brilliant build-up in the middle. Now, just when everyone thought it to be over for France, Kylian Mbappe raised to the occasion and changed the complexion of the game. Fondly known as ‘Ninja Turtle’, Mbappe scored a brace late in the night to take the game to the added time.

Arguably, one of the greatest footballers of all time, Messi once again stepped up to give Argentina the lead but the 23-year-old Mbappe scored in the dying minutes to complete his hat-trick and most importantly, kept the defending champions alive as the match finished 3-3 after 120 minutes.

However, in the penalty shoot-out, Argentina reigned supreme and won their third World Cup in history while Messi won the Golden Ball for his exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
