With the CSK batters nailing big hits on almost every given opportunity, Faf du Plessis' bowlers felt the heat in the 20th over of the first innings in the 'Southern Derby' of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, which is witnessing Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings square off at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

Ace pacer Harshal Patel was given the ball in the final over, where he conceded a single off the first ball.

However, on the very next ball, he bowled a full toss way above the permissible limit, as it was rightly adjudged a no-ball by the on-field umpire. On strike, Ravindra Jadeja could not take the advantage of the free hit, and could manage only a single which deviated off his pads.

The third ball was seen veering down the legs of Moeen Ali, and was adjudged a wide. On the very next delivery, Patel again bowled a waist-high no-ball, and could not bowl further as per prevailing cricket laws.

Stand-in skipper Glenn Maxwell took the onus upon himself to bowl the remainder of the over and was hit for a six on what was the second free hit of the over. Jadeja danced down the track to take advantage of the fourth ball, but in vain, as he managed to find the fielder at long off.

At 8, skipper MS Dhoni could manage only a single on the penultimate delivery as Moeen had to face the last ball. The English Southpaw managed only 1 run off the last ball to take the team total to 226/7 in the designated overs. In total, ten balls were bowled in the final over and 16 runs were scored in total.

In the end, it was felt as if the Chennai batters were not able to carry the momentum given by the early exploits of Devon Conway (83 off 45), Ajinkya Rahane (37 off 20), and Shivam Dube (52 off 27). Notably, as many as 105 runs were scored between the eighth and fifteenth over in comparison to 61 scored between the 16-20 overs.
