The England women's team have been handed a major boost as skipper Heather Knight is all set to make her comeback to the national side. This comes after Knight had a successful hip surgery following which she was given the green light and declared fit to return.

The Englishwoman had injured her hip during the first of three T20Is against South Africa back in July, earlier this year. What followed next saw the skipper missing out on the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, India’s tour of England, the Hundred and the ongoing WBBL.

However, Knight confirmed to ESPNcricinfo on her fitness status and further stated that she will be marking her return to the squad.

"It feels like it's been a long old rehab but I've just come good the last couple of weeks and am getting back to pretty much full training now. Fielding has probably been the one thing that's been a little bit niggly and a little bit of pain, but I've had a really good couple of days so I'm fit to go to the West Indies, which is great. It's just the last couple of weeks, certain positions that the hip didn't really like, but the last few days it's been good as gold so I'm ready to get back and play," said Knight.

The player was side-lined after she decided to take up the operation to repair the torn tissue and damaged cartilage, and remove a piece of bone in her right hip joint. This eventually took up the entire summer and she had to be in rehab to recover swiftly.

During her absence from the side, the Three Lions was led by Nat Sciver in the CWG event followed by Amy Jones in the three ODIs and a 2-1 T20I series win against India. With Knight set to return to the side, she will be in action against West Indies, with the ODIs forming a part of the ICC Women's Championship.
