The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is looking to formulate a policy for the retired Indian players who are keen on joining the various T20 leagues. It is known that there is no policy for the same at the moment, and the BCCI is keen on putting one in place.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, the retired Indian players will have to undergo a cooling off period after their retirement before they go on to join a T20 league. The duration of the cooling off period is going to be decided upon by the BCCI in the Apex Council meeting scheduled on July 7.

The reported decision comes after many instances of several Indian players announcing their retirement and joining a T20 league a week later.

The former players were offered big cheques for their participation in the T20 leagues, and the BCCI was of the opinion that this could cause a problem in the future. With the constant rise of T20 leagues across the globe, it could prove to be quite a dilemma for the BCCI if the retired players are lured into the league right after their retirement.

BCCI pondering over many important decisions as well

In another topic of the BCCI meeting, the Apex Council will also be discussing the participation of both the men’s and women’s teams in the upcoming Asian Games. It was earlier reported that the BCCI would be sending the men’s B team and the women’s team to the tournament.

Furthermore, the governing body is also looking to make changes to the impact player rule for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Earlier, the impact player rule in the competition was different from that of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the BCCI is looking to keep the rules the same for both the IPL and the domestic tournament, where there are no over-restrictions.
