The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly been making huge strides to get cricket included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Several reports have emerged that both the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and ICC have confirmed the inclusion of the sport in the mega event in 2028. With the debut of the gentlemen’s game in the Olympics, the reports stated the plan could only change if it went 'terribly wrong' from this point onward.

Furthermore, confirmation of the same could be provided at the IOC session, which is scheduled for later this year in October 2023, in Mumbai. The ICC has been trying to get cricket included in the Olympics for quite some time now. If the sport is added, it could do wonders for its popularity in the coming years.

Furthermore, it has also been established that the IOC is looking at cricket as the best way to maintain a strong grip on the Indian market. As per the reports, several discussions have already taken place over the possible venues that could host cricket matches at the Olympics. There were several rumours that the Knight Riders’ Group stadium which is being built in the USA, for the upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) could be a probable venue.

IOC's media rights income from India would go up to $260 million: ICC

Also, the ICC recently wrote a letter to the IOC in which they urged the Olympic body to consider the financial benefit of including cricket in the mega event. "IOC's media rights income from India would go up to $130 million on the lower end of the scale and touch as much as $260 million if cricket was played at the games, the ICC has argued," as per a Hindustan Times report, a source familiar with the ICC's pitch said.

With the 2032 Olympics being held in Brisbane, Australia. Cricket’s inclusion in 2028 could help smooth things out as well, as it could continue with ease down given the sport’s popularity in the country.
