Reports: Jio sets plan to broadcast IPL in 4K HD resolution
Sports18 will be broadcasting the IPL in 16-17 languages with an aim to make the tournament available to every mobile screen in the preferred language of the viewer.

The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is fast approaching, and excitement among the viewers is starting to build up already. Jio-led Sports18 will be broadcasting the IPL this season in the country, and as per reports, they are said to provide a 4K resolution telecast of the tournament.
An official announcement about the same is expected to happen soon. Jio also had the broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup this time around in India. They came under the scanner and received criticism from fans due to poor handling of the telecast alongside a plethora of technical glitches. However, the broadcasting of the World Cup improved a lot as the tournament went on.
As per a report by Exchange4media, it is also believed that Sports18 has spent a few hundred crores to set up a new and improved technical team to handle this year’s IPL. making sure that no technical glitches happen this time around and the viewers can have a seamless watching experience of the tournament.
IPL to be broadcast in 16-17 languages
Jio is also looking towards making the IPL available on every mobile screen in the viewer’s preferred language. The platform is exploring the possibility of broadcasting the tournament in 16–17 languages, including Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Odia, among many others.
Another new feature that is being added is "appointment viewing." This feature allows the viewer to check the scoreboard and any other graphic whenever they want, rather than having to wait for the broadcaster to show them.
In what is going to be a game changer for OTT platforms, the IPL will be broadcasted free of charge on the Jio app and the Sports18 channel. In an attempt to tackle the TV industry head-on, the broadcaster also claimed that they were targeting a reach of over 500 million users.
A user was required to have a Hotstar subscription to watch the IPL previously, but since the broadcaster of the tournament has changed, it is said that the tournament will be streamed for free on Jio Cinema.
