Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja's tenure as the head of the country's cricket regulatory body is nearing its end, according to several media sources in the country. According to reports, the previous chairman Najam Sethi is poised for a return as PCB chief after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore.

Ramiz Raja's position as the head of the board came under scrutiny following Pakistan's damaging series defeat to England on their home soil. His remarks on a dead Rawalpindi pitch did not go down well with other board members as well after Pakistan's first Test against England. An anonymous source has confirmed the change of landscape behind the scenes and hinted at the departure of the former Pakistani cricketer from his position.

"Yes, something is going on definitely. Rumors are strong that Najam Sethi who recently met with the premier at a function in Lahore might be called up to replace Ramiz as Chairman," a former member of the PCB told media.

Ramiz was appointed for the position in 2021 after former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan took charge as the Prime Minister of the country in 2018. However, Imran Khan's departure earlier this year meant that a change was due in the PCB as the Pakistani Prime Minister is the board's patron and has the authority to select candidates for the head of the PCB.

Najam Sethi, who served as the PCB chairman previously, resigned from his post in 2018 after Imran Khan took oath as the Prime Minister. Sethi is slated to return to the prestigious role as a lobby within the PCB has initiated a campaign to remove Raja from his position. Raja was facing the axe when Sharif took office as Prime Minister of Pakistan, but the former cricketer managed to retain his position despite a change in governance.
