In a notable development within Indian cricket, winds of change are set to sweep through the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The buzz in the Indian cricketing circle suggests that Salil Ankola, the former fast-bowling maestro and the head of selectors for the western region, is poised to depart from his current role.
The plot thickens as we delve into the intricacies of the matter. As per the reports by Indian Express, the BCCI has taken a decisive step to prevent the presence of two selectors from the same geographical zone, a move that has ramifications for Salil Ankola. The former India and Mumbai captain, who has diligently served as a senior selector, finds his tenure in jeopardy due to this zoning policy.
The current selection committee members initially assumed their roles under the aegis of one-year contracts with the BCCI. Come December of this year, they will be required to reapply for their positions. The existing committee comprises notable figures such as Ajit Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, S Sharath, and Salil Ankola.
To further this process, the BCCI is poised to seek approval from the board during the annual general body meeting in Goa. What's more, the board intends to present the selection committee with a revamped compensation package as part of the proceedings.
