Reports: Zimbabwe legend Heath Streak critically ill, fans pray for quick recovery

Former Zimbabwe skipper and the legend of the game, Heath Streak is reportedly extremely ill and is on his deathbed. Even though the details of his illness are yet to be revealed but he is currently in South Africa and is battling for his life.

Former minister of Education, Arts and Culture, David Coltart confirmed the news through his Twitter account while sports journalist Mike Madoda mentioned that only a miracle can save the legendary cricketer at the moment. He also urged everyone to keep Streak in their prayers.

“Heath Streak is on his last legs. Family en route to South Africa from the UK..  Seems only a miracle will save him now. Prayers up,” Madoda tweeted.

The legendary career of Heath Streak

The 49-year-old made his international debut on November 10, 1993, against South Africa. Since then, Heath went on to represent Zimbabwe in 65 Test matches and 189 ODIs. In the longest format of the game, Heath scored 1990 runs to his name at an average of 22.35 while he also snared 216 wickets to his name at an average of 28.14.

When it comes to white-ball cricket, Heath scored 2943 runs and has 239 wickets to his name. 

Meanwhile, after his playing days got over, Streak got involved in a fixing scandal, for which ICC suspended the former cricketer. He was said to have accepted payments from potential corruptor, Indian businessman Deepak Agarwal, for which he later apologised and stated that he had never any intention to corrupt the game.

Meanwhile, Streak also played 175 first-class games and 309 List-A matches in which he scored 5684 runs and 408 runs respectively. When it comes to his bowling, the pacer managed to pick up 499 and 385 wickets respectively.
