Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh lauded Rinku Singh for his brilliant batting in T20I cricket in the recent past. After having a terrific time with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023, the southpaw was called up to the national team for the Ireland series. Since then, he has played an aggressive brand of cricket and helped the Indian team win multiple matches. He has also been extremely consistent, which can help him earn a ticket to the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Speaking about Rinku, Yuvraj stated that the Aligarh-born batter reminds him of himself and claimed that he is the best left-handed batter in India right now. The 42-year-old added that Rinku knows when to attack and is incredibly smart under pressure.

“He’s probably the best left-hander in the Indian squad right now. He reminds me of myself – he knows when to attack, when to rotate strike, and he’s incredibly smart under pressure. He can win us matches. I don’t want to put pressure on him, but I truly believe he has the skill to do what I used to – to be the finisher who delivers at No.5 or 6,” Yuvraj mentioned while talking to The Telegraph.

Shubman needs to work harder in Test cricket: Yuvraj

Shubman Gill is currently going through a rough patch in both red-ball and white-ball cricket. He was average in the Test series against South Africa, scoring just 74 runs in four innings. Yuvraj mentioned that the 24-year-old needs to work harder in the longest format of the game and reminded him that to be the best, one needs to do well in all the formats.

“Shubman needs to work harder in Test cricket,” Yuvraj says. “If you want to be the best in the world, you have to conquer all formats,” the two-time World Cup winner said.

Notably, in the first T20I against Afghanistan in Mohali, Gill got a good start but failed to convert it as he got out after scoring 23 runs. With that, his spot in the T20I team too looks to be under threat as Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to replace him in the second match in Indore.
