Former India cricketer, Atul Wassan, advices a balanced approach for India's captain in the ICC World Cup 2023 Final against Australia. Wassan suggests a more measured innings from Rohit Sharma, cautioning against an overly aggressive stance. He highlights the potential challenge posed by the pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, warning that an excessively aggressive approach might expose Sharma to trouble against their formidable bowling attack.
Rohit’s outstanding form in the ODI World Cup 2023 has been a game-changer for India. His aggressive approach at the start has been instrumental in laying a solid foundation for formidable totals. The Mumbaiker's focus hasn't been on personal records; rather, he's prioritized swift innings to propel India forward swiftly. According to Wassan, the Australian squad exudes vitality and possesses the mindset necessary for triumph in crucial encounters.
“Rohit has been over-attacking in his approach. But I fear that Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will do well against him so he should take a measured approach. The preparation has been nice since we have won all our matches. It seems that the match will be easy but it would not be the case as I know the Australian team well and have played with them," Atul Wassan told ANI ahead of the impending final.
All players are performing well that is why the team is doing good: Atul Wassan
Heading into the final, India boasts a remarkable streak of 10 consecutive victories, eyeing an undefeated tournament victory—a feat previously accomplished solely by West Indies and Australia. Wassan highlights a pivotal shift in the current Indian lineup: a collective team effort driving success, unlike past reliance on a handful of players. This balanced contribution across the squad distinguishes the present Indian team, as emphasized by his analysis.
“All players are performing well, that is why the team is doing good. Earlier, only one or two players used to play really well and the rest were not up to the mark. Rohit has set a platform for the rest with his batting, that is why Virat Kohli has performed so well. Mohammed Shami has performed so well, but it is Jasprit Bumrah who puts the pressure on batters due to which other bowlers are thriving. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have also played their roles well, they will be our trump cards tomorrow,” the 55-year-old concluded.
