Zimbabwe spinner Wellington Masakadza is optimistic of doing well in the ongoing five-match T20I series against India. The hosts defeated the Men in Blue by 13 runs in the first T20I of the series, which gave them a lot of confidence. Ahead of the second match on July 8, Masakadza talked about the importance of the series and added that he is eager to pick the wicket of Shubman Gill and other right-hand batters like Riyan Parag.

Masakadza stated that they want to use the conditions well to trouble the second-string team India. The 30-year-old mentioned that even though India decided to give rest to senior players, they have tremendous quality to get back into the winning ways. However, he pointed out that Zimbabwe have some plans in place and would look forward to using them well to seal the series at home.

“We are trying to use our own conditions as much as we can against this Indian side. It's a second-string Indian side, but there are a lot of good players in there. So, we are looking forward to this series. We've had a few plans in place. We needed them to work and obviously, we are trying to use our own conditions as much as we can against this Indian side,” Masakadza was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times.

“I'll be looking to take Shubman Gill's big wicket and some of the right-handers, Parag and some of the other guys in the side. It will be a very good challenge. They're very good spinners. This series will mean a lot to us. If we manage to win the series, it will be a very big thing in our future,” he added.

Picking wickets can be good for me to get a gig: Masakadza

Masakadza hopes to do well in the series and find a gig in franchise cricket. Sikandar Raza, who did well the last time India travelled to Zimbabwe, managed to get a contract from Punjab Kings and Masakadza hopes to achieve the same.

“Definitely, it's always a good thing to go out there and play in those leagues. I will look to take some wickets in this series. That can be good for me to get a gig,” Masakadza added.
