Star all-rounder Shardul Thakur will not feature in Mumbai's third-round Ranji Trophy 2026-27 fixture against Haryana, which gets underway at the BKC complex in Mumbai on Monday. Thakur continues to recover from injury and has not been cleared for selection.
Thakur fractured his right middle finger during a training session ahead of the tournament's opening round. Initial reports suggested he would be unavailable for at least the first two matches, and although the Mumbai camp had hoped he would regain fitness in time for the third game, he is yet to be declared match-fit. He now sits out a third successive Ranji Trophy outing for the side.
Mumbai retained the same squad that defeated Himachal Pradesh by a bonus point in Bilaspur in the previous round. Despite carrying several injury concerns, the side leads Elite Group D with 14 points from two rounds.
What is Shardul Thakur doing during his recovery?
Thakur has continued to train alongside the Mumbai squad throughout his rehabilitation. He was also spotted with Suryakumar Yadav at a Major League Baseball event held in Mumbai on Saturday evening. While he remains unavailable for selection, the out-of-favour India allrounder is set to take on commentary duties for certain T20Is during India's ongoing series against New Zealand.
Thakur last appeared competitively in the Duleep Trophy quarter-final, representing West Zone against North Zone in late August. The India allrounder returned figures of one wicket in 14 overs across two innings. With the bat, he contributed 10 runs in his only completed innings at the crease. In the second innings, he walked in but did not face a single delivery, finishing unbeaten on zero as North Zone wrapped up a 52-run victory.
How does Mumbai's squad look for the Haryana match?
Mumbai's injury concerns stretch well beyond Thakur. Newly appointed vice-captain Ayush Mhatre is also sidelined, ruled out by a hamstring injury. Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, is in New Zealand to feature in the Test matches that follow the ongoing 'A' series.
Opening batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi and all-rounder Suryansh Shedge were drafted into the group as reinforcements ahead of the second round and both continue in the squad for the Haryana fixture. Despite these setbacks, Mumbai remain at the summit of Elite Group D with 14 points, underlining the team's strong start to the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy campaign.
