Chennai Super Kings posted 146/2 in just 14 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore after an extraordinary start from Ajinkya Rahane and Devon Conway in the 24th match of Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) on April 17.
Shivam Dube shocked fans again by smashing a huge 111-meter six, his third 100-meter-plus six in IPL 2023. Rahane smashed 37 off 20 after Chennai lost Ruturaj Gaikwad to just three runs. Rahane and Conway tore apart RCB's bowling by adding a 76-run partnership for the second wicket.
Wanindu Hasaranga dismissed Rahane in the 10th over to ease a bit of pressure off from the home side but the next batter Dube kept carrying the momentum with Conway.
The former Bangalore all-rounder stunned everyone by hitting a 111-meter six, the longest of today's match thus far, off Harshal Patel's delivery in the 13th over. Dube smashed 52 off 27 with two fours and five sixes while Conway dominated proceedings from the other end.
Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis won the toss for Royal Challengers Bangalore and elected to field first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Chennai included Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana in the place of injured Sisanda Magala while Bangalore fielded the same eleven that beat Delhi Capitals in the last game.
Chennai struggled for a good start again as Ruturaj Gaikwad walked off the pitch in the third over after scoring just three runs. But Rahane and Conway steadied Super Kings' innings with sensational knocks. Wanindu Hasaranga bowled Rahane in the 10th over but the runs kept flowing with Dube proving a point against his former franchise.
Dube stole the show with five big sixes and reached 50 off just 25 balls. Wayne Parnell picked his first wicket of the game to dismiss Dube in the 17th over as Mohammed Siraj picked a brilliant catch at deep mid-wicket. But the lower order continued firing with small but impactful cameos to help Chennai Super Kings post a total of 226/6 in 20 overs.
