South Africa romped over England by a massive margin of 229 runs in Match 20 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Saturday, October 21 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. After being put in to bat first, South Africa posted a massive total of 399/7 in their allotted 50 overs as Heinrich Klaasen (109 off 67) scored a breathtaking hundred.

In reply, England were bundled out for 170 in 22 overs as Gerald Coetzee scalped three wickets for South Africa. Among the many stars who shone for the Proteas in their comprehensive victory, one was the 23-year-old Marco Jansen who performed exceptionally with both bat and ball.

Jansen played a brilliant counter-attacking innings of 75* off 42 balls smashing three fours and six sixes in his innings. In the final three overs of the innings, he took on Gus Atkinson and Reece Topley managing 20 and 26 runs in their overs respectively.

During his innings, he stylishly smacked a low full toss by Atkinson straight over his head by sitting on his haunches inside the crease. The 23-year-old held the pose as he saw the ball sail over the bowler’s head for a six.

Klaasen and Jansen were involved in a massive 151-run stand off just 76 balls for the sixth wicket and crushed the England attack in the hot and humid conditions in Mumbai.

England blown away by South African seamers

The left-arm seamer also starred with the ball as he picked up the prized scalps of Dawid Malan (6 off 11) and Joe Root (2 off 6) to give early blows to England. Following that, there was no recovery for the defending champions and they were bundled out for 170 in 22 overs handing a massive 229-run win for the Proteas.

Gerald Coetzee was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa as he picked up 3/35 in four overs while Lungi Ngidi (2/26, 5 overs) and Jansen (2/35, 5 overs) also picked up two wickets each.
