Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan was seen in beast mode during Australia vs Afghanistan Match 39 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Tuesday, November 07 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Walking in to bat at number seven, Rashid played a quick-fire innings of 35* (18) smashing two fours and three sixes and helped Afghanistan post a good score of 291/5 in their allotted 50 overs.

The 25-year-old set Wankhede stadium ablaze with his breathtaking shots bringing the crowd to the edge of their seats. One of his shots left everyone present at the stadium flabbergasted as he hit a ‘no-look’ six against Mitchell Starc. On the fifth ball of the 50th over, Rashid audaciously pulled a bouncer from Starc towards the crowd at deep square leg for a maximum. The shot even left former Australia captain Ricky Ponting stunned who’s known for his splendid pull shots.

“It’s like watching a game of Tennis,” said Ponting while describing the shot in the commentary.

Apart from Rashid, Ibrahim Zadran also starred with the bat for Afghanistan as he became the first player to score a hundred for his nation in the ODI World Cup history. Zadran remained unbeaten on 129* off 143 balls smashing eight fours and three sixes in his innings.

Later in the second innings, Australia’s chase got off the worst possible as start as they were left reeling at 87/6 after 16.4 overs with Travis Head (0 off 2), David Warner (18 off 29), Mitchell Marsh (24 off 11), Marnus Lasbuschagne (14 off 28), Josh Inglis (0 off 1) back in the hut cheaply.

However, Glenn Maxwell had other ideas as he turned the tide for his team with his record-shattering innings of 201* (128) smashing 21 fours and ten sixes. He got involved in an unbeaten 202-run stand with Pat Cummins to help his side chase down 292 in 46.5 overs and win the match by three wickets.
