Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Sunil Narine once again failed to go big in his team’s fourth fixture of the IPL 2024 as he got dismissed for 27 (20) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday, April 08 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Despite playing a short innings, the southpaw didn’t fail to entertain his fans as he clobbered three fours and two sixes during his stay at the crease.
Narine put his stupendous six-hitting prowess on display as he hit Maheesh Theekshana for a colossal maximum over long-on. On the last ball of the fifth over in the first innings, the KKR stood in his crease as Theekshana bowled the delivery right in his slot. The West Indies cricketer whacked it with all his might over long on sending the ball high into the night sky as it travelled for a maximum.

Narine got involved in a 56-run stand for the second wicket with Angrish Raghuvanshi (24 off 18) off 36 balls after KKR lost Philip Salt on the first ball of the innings. Ravindra Jadeja broke the crucial stand for CSK by dismissing Raghuvanshi and Narine in his first over and later got rid of Venkatesh Iyer (3 off 8) in his second. The left-arm spinner finished with figures of 3/18 in four overs.

Apart from him, Tushar Deshpande (3/33) also got the big scalps of Salt, Rinku Singh (9 off 14) and Andre Russell (10 off 10) to keep KKR at bay. Mustafizur Rahman (2/22) also chipped in with two wickets restricting KKR to 137/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, the hosts comfortably chased down the target in 17.1 overs with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad guiding them home with an unbeaten half-century (67* off 58). Daryl Mitchell (25 off 19) and Shivam Dube (28 off 18) also made valuable contributions. Following their win, CSK climbed to the fourth spot on the points table with three wins from five matches while KKR maintained their second spot after losing their first game after three consecutive wins.
