2022 turned out to be an unprecedented year for Sri Lanka Cricket as the board registered a record profit of LKR 6.3 billion. So far, it’s the highest annual net income ever earned by the SLC. During the year, at the time of the country’s disastrous economic crisis, the country successfully hosted a bilateral series against Australia.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) disclosed that the latest record income was generated from four segments which are international cricket, domestic cricket, sponsorship contracts, and ICC annual member disbursements.

In an official statement, the board also mentioned its investment breakdown and shared that it invested a sum of LKR 4.2 billion in playing international cricket in 2022, which includes the expenses of inbound and outbound tours of the national squad, the A team, the junior team, and the national women’s team. The board also spent a huge chunk of the amount on domestic cricket to improve its standard.

"The latest growth in net income was mainly generated from four revenue segments, which are international cricket, domestic cricket, sponsorship contracts, and ICC annual member disbursements. During the year under reference, Sri Lanka Cricket invested Rs. 4.2 billion on playing international cricket, consisting of inbound and outbound tours of the national team, the “A” team, junior team tours, and the national women’s team tour expenses," SLC said in a statement.

Of LKR 6.3 billion, the sum of 2.27 billion was spent on the development of the domestic circuit in 2022. The hefty amount was used to play domestic cricket, for the functioning of the high-performance center, pay compensation of domestic players and officials, and money was also utilized towards the development of school cricket.

1.2 billion invested in fulfilling Sri Lanka Cricket’s CSR program

On Thursday, the Sports Minister of Sri Lanka, Roshan Ranasinghe, appointed a 10-member committee to draft a new constitution for SLC. The panel will be led by the retired Supreme Court judge KT Chithrasiri and it will also include some notable personalities and former cricketers such as Farveez Maharoof and Charith Senanayake.

“Rs. 1.2 billion was invested in fulfilling Sri Lanka Cricket’s corporate social responsibility program, which consisted of a grant of over Rs. 900 million for the country’s health sector (including donations for the Apeksha Cancer Hospital and Lady Ridgeway Hospital) and over Rs. 278 million for the National Sports Fund, among other grants such as Rs. 25 million to renovate the Gangarama Rajamaha Viharaya in Kandy, etc," SLC further stated.

The Sri Lanka cricket team brought joy to the faces of their cricket fans with their incredible Asia Cup triumph in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2022. Despite starting horrendously in the tournament with a humiliating defeat against Afghanistan, the team vanquished quality sides such as India and Pakistan and lifted the trophy.
