Sri Lanka were dismissed for 45 runs in 9.5 overs during the Asian Games 2026 men's T20I semi-final against India on October 1, 2026, at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Japan. It is the lowest total Sri Lanka have ever posted in men's T20I cricket.
The previous lowest for Sri Lanka in T20Is was 77, recorded against South Africa in New York on June 3, 2024. The 45 also equals the joint-lowest total by any Full Member nation in men's T20I history, matching West Indies' 45 against England at Basseterre on March 8, 2019.
India won the match by 124 runs, which is Sri Lanka's second-heaviest defeat in men's T20Is. Their heaviest loss remains a 134-run defeat to Australia in Adelaide in 2019. The 124-run victory was also India's 11th win by 100 or more runs in men's T20Is, a world record for any team in the format.
How did India's bowlers dismiss Sri Lanka for 45?
India's bowling unit was clinical from the first over and gave Sri Lanka's batters no room to settle. Axar Patel was the standout performer with the ball, returning figures of 3/8. Jasprit Bumrah was equally threatening, finishing with 2/7, while Abhishek Sharma claimed 2/2 to make it a miserable afternoon for the Sri Lankan top order. Washington Sundar rounded off the innings with 1/18.
The collapse was comprehensive across the entire batting card. Five Sri Lanka batters were dismissed for ducks, a tally that ranks joint second in the history of a single T20I innings. The record for most ducks in one T20I innings belongs to Zimbabwe, who had six in a match against the West Indies in 2010. Nuwanidu Fernando was the only Sri Lanka batter to reach double figures, contributing 15 runs, which illustrates how completely the rest of the order failed to offer any resistance.
How did India set up the 124-run win with the bat?
India posted 169/7 in their allotted 20 overs to set Sri Lanka a target that ultimately proved far beyond them. Ishan Kishan was the standout batter, finishing unbeaten on 80 off 46 balls with four fours and five sixes, an innings that gave India's total real substance in the back half of the innings. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi provided brisk support with 38 off 21 balls to help India build a competitive score.
The 124-run margin of victory extended India's own world record as the team with the most wins by 100 or more runs in men's T20I cricket, taking that tally to 11. The semi-final at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin was a one-sided contest from start to finish, with India dominant in both innings and Sri Lanka unable to mount any meaningful challenge at any point during the game.
