In a very major and extremely welcome move, the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket has taken a massive decision to increase the match fees of Sri Lanka women cricketers from the current US Dollar 250 to US Dollar 750 for the year 2023.

The decision comes as a part of the board's continuous efforts towards making women cricketers empowered and enhancing the overall sport in the country.

An attempt to empower women cricketers: Sri Lanka Cricket takes major step

"The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket decided to raise the match fees of the National Women's Players for the year 2023 during a meeting held on January 31, 2023. Consequently, match fees for both formats of white-ball cricket have increased from USD 250 to USD 750 per match, per player," Sri Lanka Cricket informed in a press release on February 14, 2023.

In its released statement, Sri Lanka Cricket expressed its wish to bring about equality and parity between its men and women cricketers, and what way better than try and do it financially, because that way the women cricketers will definitely be able to fulfill their major ambitions on the big stage. Also, with financial independence, it will be a conscious attempt to empower the Sri Lankan women cricketers in their endeavours.

If tripling the match fees per player wasn't enough, to add more merry to the announcement, Sri Lanka Cricket in its press release also stated that for every single match the team wins, whether bilateral or internatioanl tournaments, the board would reward each player with a winning bonus of  USD 250.

"Furthermore, for each match won by the team, whether in a bilateral or international tournament, each player will receive a US$ 250 winning bonus," the release mentioned.

The Sri Lanka women's team has been on a roll, having two back-to-back matches in their ongoing Women's T20 World Cup campaign, first against hosts South Africa and second against Bangladesh.
