Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Roger Binny 'disturbed' by visuals of wrestlers being manhandled

With the wrestlers’ protest getting heated up the Police have now started manhandling the wrestlers who are participating in the protest. Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia are among the major wrestlers, who are seeking the arrest of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers. Since the time Delhi Police detained the wrestlers for the violation of order and law, the situation has further escalated.

The protesting wrestlers have now decided to take the major step of dumping their hard-earned medals for the country into the holy river, Ganga. In the same vein, the 1983 World Cup-winning cricket team came forward on Friday, and requested the top athletes to not to take such a decision in the heated moment as it is their hard earned medals. Furthermore, the former world champions requested that the concerned authorities should acknowledge and address this matter at the earliest possible.

These medals are not only their own but also the pride and delight of the country. They required years of work, sacrifice, fortitude, and determination. Notably, the police action against the wrestlers had invited criticism from different quarters. The 1983 world champion team further added that let the rule of law take precedence.

"We are distressed and disturbed at the unseemly visuals of our champion wrestlers being manhandled. We are also most concerned that they are thinking of dumping their hard-earned medals into the river Ganga. Those medals have involved years of effort, sacrifice, determination, and grit and are not only their own but the nation's pride and joy. We urge them not to take any hasty decision in this matter and also fervently hope that their grievances are heard and resolved quickly. Let the law of the land prevail," the team said as per the ANI Twitter handle.

Kapil-Dev led Indian team humbled West Indies to become World Champions in 1983

The Indian cricket team, captained by the legendary skipper, Kapil Dev, defeated the the-then mighty West Indies, led by Clive Lloyd, to win the nation's maiden World Cup championship. The historic final was played at the Lord's on June 25, 1983.

Meanwhile, speaking of the grand final, after having put up some resistance to the incredible bowling of the strongest team of the mega event, the Indian team managed to finish with 183 runs on the board. In reply, a spirited bowling performance by team India led to a historical win as West Indies got folded on 140. Speaking of the notable performance of the current BCCI president, Roger Binny,  the all-rounder ended up as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
