India and Bangladesh locked horns for the second and final Test of the series, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on December 22, Thursday. With a lead of 1-0, India headed on to the game with an aim to win and made one change to their playing combination. Kuldeep Yadav, who won the Player of the Match award in the first game, was rested and Jaydev Unadkat was brought in.

Making just his second Test appearance, and playing an international Test match after a gap of 12 years, Unadkat impressed everyone with his bowling skills and went on to scalp his maiden Test wicket in the game. He provided India with the first breakthrough and dismissed Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan in the very first session before Lunch.

Former India skipper and a legend of the game Sunil Gavaskar was all praises for Unadkat as he made a comeback to the Test format. He also said that he wishes to see him play more games in the format and continues to use the advantage of his height while bowling.

“Even in the first over that he bowled, he got the ball to nip back in and bounce. If there was a forward short leg, maybe he would have got a wicket earlier on. He was also unlucky that a couple of edges flew away from the fielders,” Gavaskar said while commentating on Sony Sports Network.

He is using his height well: Gavaskar

After Unadkat dismissed Zakir Hasan, the centurion from the previous game, experienced spinner Ravichandran Ashwin got the second breakthrough by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto. As a result, Bangladesh ended the first session on 82/2 before going for Lunch. Unadkat managed to pick up another wicket post Lunch, in the second session, as he dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim.

“Good to see him taking his first wicket and, hopefully, it’s the first of many because he brings a left-hand variety into the attack. He is using his height well, he is banging the ball just short of a length, not looking to bowl the bouncer. And look at those figures,” he added.
