Arjun Tendulkar is a long way from emulating his father in the cricketing field, but he is most certainly on the right track. Son of the legendary Indian cricketer, Arjun recorded his best T20 bowling figures, scalping four wickets against Hyderabad in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The left-arm pacer returned with dazzling bowling figures of 4/10 in his four overs.
Playing just his third game of the tournament, Arjun was relentless from the get-go, getting rid of Prateek Reddy in the third over of the match. He then returned to dismiss Buddhi Rahul and Ravi Teja in the 17th over before sending back his Mumbai Indians team-mate Tilak Verma for a well-made 62 off 46 deliveries.
The young pacer had switched to Goa from Mumbai before the start of the ongoing season. He went wicketless in the opening game against Tripura but returned with two wickets in the following game against Manipur. Today's outing takes his tally to six wickets in just three matches this season.
Arjun was re-signed by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 mega auction
Coming to the game, Hyderabad skipper Tanmay Agarwal laid the foundation for his side with a fluent 55 off 41 deliveries. He was supported valiantly by young batting bulwark Tilak Verma, who smashed six fours and two maximums in his 46-ball stay at the crease. Mickil Jaiswal and Tanay Thyagarajan contributed with handy cameos at the end to help Hyderabad to a strong total of 177 runs in their 20 overs.
Notably, Arjun made his debut in the competition for Mumbai last year after impressing in junior cricket. He was snapped by Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians for INR 20 lakhs in IPL 2021 auction, followed by his stint with the franchise as a net bowler. Although unused through the entirety of the campaign, he was once again signed by the Mumbai-based franchise for INR 30 lakhs after failed bids from eventual winners Gujarat Titans. He was also part of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy team in 2021/22 season but was dropped for the second round.
