In news of a huge relief for the Indian team, Washington Sundar has reunited with the squad as they continue to compete in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Sundar has joined the 15-member squad in New Delhi ahead of the Group A encounter against Namibia on Thursday, February 12 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Sundar did not waste a lot of time since coming from the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru to return to the zone. He, along with other members of the squad, had a couple of hours of intense net sessions on Tuesday evening. Sundar expressed his delight at being back in the dressing room. He feels that the atmosphere around the team is amazing after their win in the tournament opener against the USA.

"It's always nice to be over here with the boys and training. It was quite an intense session, and we ticked all the boxes. We did a very good fielding session, and obviously I got to bowl a lot. And obviously batted as well. So it's really nice to be over here," the all-rounder was heard saying in a video on BCCI.tv.

"The atmosphere is amazing. The last three weeks were really good in terms of how I prepared and how much work I've put in myself to sort of come here and to be able to be really ready for the tournament. So just really looking forward to the second game," the Tamil Nadu cricketer said further.

For the unversed, Sundar had faced an acute onset of discomfort around his lower rib, which had ruled him out of the recently concluded multi-format series against New Zealand. Since then, he spent a few weeks in Bengaluru under the watchful eyes of the BCCI medical team at the Centre of Excellence to recuperate and be fully fit for the twenty-team tournament.

He is expected to be given game time during the upcoming fixture against the Namibians; however, one blessing has led to another curse for the Indian team, as Abhishek Sharma is expected to miss the encounter. Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in New Delhi ahead of the all-important match owing to a stomach infection, shortly after the Indian team had dinner at head coach Gautam Gambhir's residence.
