Ahead of the upcoming tour of South Africa, the BCCI's senior selection committee is set to assemble in New Delhi to finalise four crucial teams: India A, India's T20I squad, ODI squad, and the Test team. Given the World Test Championship's significance, there's a strong inclination to field a robust Indian contingent specifically geared for Test cricket in South Africa. Virat Kohli has confirmed his availability solely for the two-Test series, opting out of the white-ball fixtures.

While Kohli has committed to the Tests, it remains uncertain whether Rohit Sharma will also skip the white-ball games. However, Sharma is expected to join the team for the Test matches later in the tour. The series itinerary includes three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests, with the initial batch of players scheduled to depart from Bengaluru on December 6. With Hardik Pandya sidelined, speculation looms over the T20 captaincy, questioning if Suryakumar Yadav will retain the leadership role.

This prioritisation of Test cricket echoes the team's focus on clinching a series victory in South Africa, a feat yet to be achieved by India, thereby bolstering their prospects for the World Test Championship final. After the demanding 50-over World Cup, the selection committee prioritises managing players' workload. They aim to avoid players featuring across all formats, particularly safeguarding the bowling unit from overuse.

BCCI has procured Visas for 45 Indian players ahead of South Africa tour

The BCCI has proactively secured visas for 45 Indian players, ensuring their timely arrival in South Africa. Coaching responsibilities for India A will rest with Sitanshu Kotak and Troy Cooley, while VVS Laxman, currently coaching in the T20I series against Australia, will resume duties at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Recently, the selection committee's chairman, Ajit Agarkar, held discussions with head coach Rahul Dravid in Bengaluru to chart the team's future course.

The BCCI also extended the tenures of Dravid, Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach), Vikram Rathour (batting coach), and T Dilip (fielding coach). Recognising the strain endured by players during the emotionally taxing 50-over World Cup, the selection committee is keen on managing their workload effectively. As preparations for the tour intensify, the committee is aiming for a triumphant outing in South Africa, a terrain where Indian cricket seeks uncharted glory.
