Despite facing criticism over Punjab Kings’ disappointing end to their IPL campaign, Shreyas Iyer enjoyed an impressive season with the bat. Punjab started strongly by winning six of their opening matches, but a poor run in the latter stages saw them crash out of the tournament before the playoffs. Questions were raised about Iyer’s leadership as the team failed to maintain momentum when it mattered the most.

However, the Indian batter delivered consistently throughout the season, scoring 498 runs in 13 innings at an outstanding average of 55.33. His performances with the bat remained one of the few positives for Punjab Kings during a difficult finish to the campaign.

With the IPL now over, Iyer is set to shift his attention to international cricket. The right-handed batter has been appointed vice-captain for India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The bilateral series will begin on June 14 in Dharamsala, where Iyer will look to continue his excellent form.
