‘The only thing is the self-belief’ - Shashank Singh reflects on reason for success in IPL 2024

The mega cricket carnival IPL 2024 (Indian Premier League) has seen many excellent performances from many stars so far, however, one of the biggest standout performers of the season has been Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) Shashank Singh. The 32-year-old caught headlines right from the IPL auction as it seemed PBKS mistakenly bought him.
However, it was made clear that the franchise always wanted to rope in Shashank. With 137 runs in five games, Shashank Singh has impressed with his performances in the IPL, and the star player recently came forward to reflect on how believing in himself helped him perform at the highest level.
In PBKS’ recent clash against SRH, Nitish Kumar Reddy was named the Player of the Match for his brilliant all-round performance, and seeing his showing, Shashank opined that the youngsters are bringing confidence from their domestic performances into the IPL.

"The only thing is self-belief. Like the way we played in domestic cricket. Like you see Nitish here. He scored usually and took wickets in white-ball and red-ball both. Ashutosh you see that he did very well in the Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare trophy. But the others who are coming in, like Angkrish from KKR,” Shashank was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.

Furthermore, the star PBKS batter opined that while the youngsters are unknown in the IPL, but they are well-known stars in the domestic circuit, and reflected on how luck plays a huge role in everything as well. Besides, he added that performing well in the domestic circuit became a reward in the form of getting to play in the mega cricket carnival.

"So the players who are coming in, yes may be unknown here, but they are known players in the domestic circuit. We play domestically and they are doing very well. So it is the reward for that. Whatever you do domestically, you continue doing the same here." he further continued.
"That performance brings you here. Cricket is a game of self-belief. I think at this level, whatever you perform, you bring confidence and self-belief here and then you do well here. Obviously luck is a part, but then that self-relief confidence is always there," Shashank concluded.
