'There is clarity within the team, there is clarity in me' - Prasidh Krishna on his growth as a bowler

Prasidh Krishna has emerged as India's leading wicket-taker in ODIs in 2026, claiming 15 wickets across eight matches in the format this year.

The right-arm pacer, who made his ODI debut in 2021 but became a regular only in 2026, continued that form in the first ODI against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram, picking up 2 for 60 with the wickets of Keacy Carty and Roston Chase as West Indies posted 295 for 7 in their 50 overs. Speaking after the match, Prasidh reflected on what has driven his consistency.

"Every single session we go in, we are looking to improve at something. And every game as well poses a different kind of a challenge. When you come in knowing what exactly has to be done, there is clarity within the team, there is clarity in me as to what I do when I come in, there is enough communication going on. So all of those things accumulate and help me bowl well," Prasidh said, as quoted by Cricinfo.

The first ODI also featured a landmark moment from Virat Kohli, who scored his 55th ODI century and became only the second batter to pass 15,000 runs in ODIs.

"Sitting outside we were thinking, what do we bowl to him at that moment? He was striking the ball really, really well. All of us have grown up watching Virat Kohli and to see him do what he did today was unbelievable. I think all of us were excited about it," Prasidh said of Kohli's knock.

How has Prasidh Krishna developed into a consistent ODI performer?

Prasidh has taken 50 wickets in ODI cricket at an average of 26.62, with best figures of 5 for 23. His maiden five-wicket haul in the format came against Afghanistan in 2026. The first ODI against West Indies was his 29th appearance in the format, and his 15 wickets in 2026 alone reflect how significantly his output has grown since he became a regular in the side this year. Prasidh pointed to the environment within the team as a key factor. He also highlighted the role of his Gujarat Titans teammate Gurnoor Brar in building that understanding.

"Most importantly, it's the ability that you have within the team to talk to each other, and that happens. Gurnoor and I have spent two years now [playing together] at Gujarat Titans [in the IPL]. So I kind of know we have that rapport," Prasidh said.

How does Prasidh view the competition for India's fast bowling spots ahead of the ODI World Cup?

With the ODI World Cup approximately one year away, India have a large pool of fast bowling options. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh, Gurnoor Brar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana are all in contention, presenting the selectors with a considerable number of choices to narrow down. Prasidh welcomed the depth rather than viewing it as a concern.

"Yeah, we are seeing a lot of fast bowlers coming in. And it's really good for the Indian cricket team, honestly. You keep pushing each other. And every time we go into nets, we know the kind of bowlers that we're bowling amongst. And, yeah, that really helps. You're always communicating with each other, trying to push each other to do better. And I would say Indian cricket, in terms of fast bowling, is in pretty good hands," he said.
