Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra made a rather blunt remark on Royal Challengers Bangalore’s woes in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) ahead of their forthcoming clash against UP Warriorz. The two sides are set to square off on Wednesday, March 15 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Despite the star-studded line-up, Smriti Mandhana’s RCB have failed to obtain a single win in their five outings thus far. Their miseries on the field could see them conclude the season with a wooden spoon assuming the side is unable to turn their fortunes. Former cricketer Aakash Chopra made a blunt remark on their campaign and stated that RCB ‘will not’ get a win in the WPL.
"It is an important game for both sides but I feel RCB will not get a win again. RCB's problem is that Smriti Mandhana has sent a friend request to form but it has not been accepted. She will have Sophie Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma in front of her but despite that, I feel the friend request will be accepted today,” Aakash said on his YouTube channel.
For all practical purposes, their tournament is done: Aakash Chopra
RCB sunk to their fifth straight loss after being thoroughly obliterated by Delhi Capitals in their last outing. Notably, a qualification to the Eliminator round could be out of reach and RCB are dependent on various factors to make a place in the top three. However, Aakash believes that the five losses has left a massive dent on their campaign and their season is ‘done’.
"Smriti Mandhana's days are going bad and RCB are having an equally bad time. They have played five matches and have not won even one. For all practical purposes, their tournament is done. They are not going to progress but can spoil someone's party,” he added.
However, RCB have an outside chance to qualify if the side wins their remaining three games. Additionally, the top two sides- Mumbai and Delhi win their matches against Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz. RCB will also need Gujarat to beat UP Warriorz in their clash to make a place in the top three.
